making invisible visible

The first post… what should I say? Actually I’m still panicking about how the blog might work technolically. Well, maybe start with this topic, “making invisible visible”, which has been widely discussed recently. However, the instant response to it possibly raises two questions: why and how? I wouldn’t answer it now. Perhaps I will be able to explain why and how at the end of this reseach journey (perhaps not).

In order to begin in a decent way, I’d like to introduce you to an amazing flim made by Touch for the exhibition at Laboral. It reminds me of Dan Hill’s sci fiction “Street as Platform”, and this one is a visualisation of his imagination. Enjoy!

Also read their excerpt from the exhibition description:

Utopian and radical architects in the 1960s predicted that cities in the future would not only be made of brick and mortar, but also defined by bits and flows of information. The urban dweller would become a nomad who inhabits a space in constant flux, mutating in real time. Their vision has taken on new meaning in an age when information networks rule over many of the city’s functions, and define our experiences as much as the physical infrastructures, while mobile technologies transform our sense of time and of space.”

Indeed we live in a world now surrounded by “hertz waves” and “energies”. They are invisible, pervasive and informative. They are gradually influencing and transforming our cities. The emerging changes become perceivable. Therefore, shouldn’t we be more proactively response to those hidden forces, making invisible visible?
